Question # 1; So, just what is Hypnosis anyway?

Hypnosis has been a part of the human experience for as long as man has been walking erect. The only prerequisite for hypnosis is being able to think. So as long as man has been thinking with more than his base instinct for survival alone, he has been experiencing hypnosis. It is a completely natural state of mind and commonly occurring in all of us practically all the time.

Let me explain. Ever get so involved in a movie or TV show that you kind of "zoned out" of everything else? Speaking of zoning out, what about being "in the zone" like athletes do when they're really into what they are doing. Those are both hypnotic states of mind. They are a kind of "trance state" that people get into all by themselves. Unless of course you count commercials which we all know are designed to put us in the "buying zone".

Another kind of everyday hypnotic experience happens when you are driving down the road, maybe listening to the radio and not really consciously paying attention to anything. The next thing you know, you have arrived at your destination! It was like you were on "Autopilot". Now ,please, don't deny it because we have all been there. That is called "highway hypnosis".

As defined by The U.S. Government, hypnosis has two parts: The first is the bypass of the critical factor, and the second is the establishment of acceptable selective thinking. This is as good a definition of hypnosis as you are probably going to get.

The "bypass of the critical factor" simply means that when you are in hypnosis, you
believe that hypnosis will work and so it does. Hypnotic Anesthesia is a great example of this.  In1958 the American Medical Association accepted the use of hypnosis for anesthesia.   Hypnotic anesthesia in Dentistry is another good example of this. Imagine Root Canals and Extractions without any shots or gas. Even when used together with other kinds of anesthesia, the amounts of chemical anesthesia needed for the particular procedure can be reduced dramatically.

Guiding someone into hypnosis by using a hypnotic induction is the "The establishment of acceptable selective thinking" and that is the second part of the definition. It is by this directed and thoughtful approach to the client by which the hypnotist creates the mental scenarios that allows the client to reject the limiting beliefs and allows the hypnosis to happen..

Question #2; Tell me, How does Hypnosis really work?

Okay. Think for a moment, that your mind is like your front lawn. Every lawn has couple of weeds growing don't they? Let's say that those Weeds are problems that you want to address. Weeds are really annoying just because they are so darn hard to get rid of. A weed has deep roots, which is why, if you don't get it all when you pull it out, it just comes back. Let's now take a closer look at those weeds. You have the root under that ground deep and unseen, you have the leaves usually at about the same height as the grass, its there but not that noticeable, and then you have the stalk that grows straight up and says "I'm here!" That's the part that is unsightly and obvious to everyone. That's the thing we are trying to get rid of.

So in this analogy, The stalk is the problem that we are trying to address. It could be anything that is troubling you. A bad behavior such as smoking or maybe you need to lose some weight. It could be an emotional problem; a bad break up that's getting in the way of your every day life, or something else, a fear of some kind. What ever the problem is; its a problem for you.

Just dealing with the symptoms of the behavior would be like picking the weed at the ground level without pulling out the roots. You know it's going to come back. For a while the lawn will "look"better but actually nothing has really changed.

Hypnotherapy, is like spraying using "Weed be Gone" because in hypnosis, we can get to the root causes of the problem and eliminate them. When we get rid of the roots the Weeds don't come back. The same can be said when you get to the root of a problem. +++

Question #3; Are you going to make me cluck like a chicken or bark like a dog?

The real question is, Do you want to cluck or bark? In hypnosis you are always in control because all hypnosis is really self hypnosis. You cannot be made to do anything that you feel morally opposed to doing.

This question always comes up because people have seen stage hypnosis performances when the subjects have appear to have been "made" to do outrageous things. The truth of the matter is that once those subjects have volunteered to be "in the show and on the stage" they have agreed to go along for the entertainment It they don't they are politely asked to return to the audience. Next time you see a Stage Hypnotist work, watch for this. It is very important to understand that hypnotherapy is not entertainment. The client is here for a specific reason with a real problem that needs to be addressed. The Hypnotist is here only to help.

Along these same lines lets dispense with some other myths about hypnosis.

* Loss of consciousness:
This does not happen. Because you are very physically relaxed, hypnosis resembles sleep in that way, but in fact, during hypnosis you are in an altered state of consciousness but in fact you are hyper aware of everything that is going on. You see (when our eyes are open) and you hear everything that is going all around you.

* "You have me in your POWER":
Nope, not happening. In hypnosis, you cannot be made to do anything that goes against your own moral beliefs or that is against your own best interests. All hypnosis is really self hypnosis. The hypnotist is a guide not a manipulator. You are always in control you can refuse to do or not do what ever you wish.

* Hypnosis only works on feeble minded people:
Absolutely untrue! One of the prerequisites of hypnosis is a good imagination. Actually the opposite is true people with diminished capacity are unlikely to be able to be hypnotized.

* What happens to me if something happens to you?:
Nothing. You cannot become stuck in hypnosis. Hypnosis is maintained through the connection with the voice of the hypnotist. If the connection is severed for any reason one of two things will happen. Most likely you will just open your eyes and reemerge naturally, or if you are very tired you may fall asleep and wake up when you are ready. But do me a favor, If I have a heart attack while you are in hypnosis, when you come out please dial 911

+++ Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.  As such, the weed themes were largely "borrowed" from Cal Banyan of the Banyan Hypnosis Center.  I could not have done a better job describing this so why re-invent the wheel?
Thank you very much my friend!

15 SECOND HYPNOSIS TEST

Before you go any further...Take this 15 second test and change your life forever!!

Close your eyes and imagine sucking on a slice of a juicy sour lemon...then open your eyes.

What happened? Your mouth instantly began to water!!

Read on…

Now, close your eyes again and imagine hearing someone running their finder nails down a chalkboard.

What happened?  You felt shivers go down your back!!

WHY?

A simple idea or thought sends signals to your body, and your body reacts. In fact, your mind and body are one; they depend on each other.  '

THAT'S HYPNOSIS!

What does this have to do with me?

Well, your mental state is your dominant state; therefore your mental health affects your physical health! Your daily thoughts or suggestions you give yourself regularly determine your health and your destiny. If you give yourself a negative suggestion – that is exactly what will be your reality.

For example:

If you tell yourself over and over that you are a loser and worthless – that is what you are!

If you wake up in the morning and think “this is going to be a bad day” – you are guaranteed to have a bad day!

Instead, if you tell yourself you are sucessful and happy– that will be your reality!

Or, when you wake up in the morning and create the day you really want in your imagination; that is what you will experience!

It is too easy to convince your subconscious self of all the negatives in life…why not use that same power to do the opposite?
